Cuba
Rail
There's
no way I could spend a holiday in Cuba without visiting
Cuba Rail and even in spite of all my planning and the vast
amounts of help that I received from the Cuba
Rail Yahoo Group, nothing prepared me for the virtual
cancellation of all services that I planned to see and one
train that was running five hours late from Havana. If you're
not conversant with driving in Cuba, don't even think about
it, nor hiring a car or relying on rail or buses to take
you to where you want to be. The condition of the roads
is invariably appalling, no lighting, pot holed and riddled
with people, horse and carts and bicycles without lights.
The recommendation of the group was to find a local taxi
and hire him for the day. I was real lucky and found Victor
the taxi driver who took all the cuban hassle out of my
day and provided me with 200 miles of cuban culture, stopping
wherever I wanted him to, to photograph trains, buses, cars,
lorries and carts for £140. My visit to Cuba Railways
was limited to Cacocum and Las Tunas stations.
